Reflect / Transmit

Painting with Glass

Opening Reception - August 11, 2007

“Tales from Oak Fairy Grove” storytelling by Zenia Peterson,

and Artist Q & A

Light itself was the first creation.

The colours in paints and in stained glass are caused by pigments suspended in fluid. Light strikes a painting and is reflected off these suspended particles of pigment. Glass allows light to pass through it. It transmits light.

Chris Hall transmits through stained glass his reflections on Canadian painting. Inspired initially by the classic Group of Seven landscapes, he has recreated and transformed their terrain. He has created original images which illustrate invisible drama within the Muskoka forests, as portrayed in Zenia Peterson’s Oak Grove stories. Through his explorations of translucence he has developed his own vision of Ka-na-ta, our luminous village.

Chris Hall has been creating in stained glass since 1991. He has built and installed hundred of windows and done thousands of on-site restorations and repairs in the Toronto area.
