Baroque and Edible Poetry

Baroque and Edible Poetry

John Picchione, professor of Italian Literature at York University, presented Baroque Poetry for the Post-Modern Age. He used his translations from old Italian to illustrate his contention that that age was similar to contemporary times. Scientific discoveries and technological changes led to the thrill of a new perspective on the world, as well as to to a sense of insecurity, and the exuberant reevaluation of beliefs and politics which must follow.

The verses were recreated in cookies on tables around the gallery. Words were rearranged as cookies were eaten. The poems were ingested for a second time - first aurally, then orally.

Poetry metamorphosed continuously throughout the evening. Follow the poetic transformations in the photos.
