Trees: these gentle giants occupy an important place in almost every Torontonian’s heart. They stir fond childhood memories, provide fresh-picked fruit in Toronto yards, tower over residential streets, and offer relief from hot, smoggy days. Vincenzo’s work challenges us to reach into our own memories, examine our relationship to trees, and consider what the city might be without them. A select group of respected Torontonians – ranging from artists and filmmakers to community activists and media personalities – have chosen the featured trees as the ones they feel closest to in the city. Vincenzo’s work illustrates the deep connection as well as the personal relationships that exist between Torontonians and their trees.
