Summer 2008 - the gallery invited reflection on over two years of art exhibition in this space.
Art began to appear at Liberty Tax in June, 2006 with the St. Clair Kick-It! soccer festival, during which the office was first transformed into a gallery. Vincenzo Pietropaolo’s photos of the 1982 Italia World Cup victory celebrations on St. Clair brought back memories from neighbourhood participants, and a lovely sense of our community history to everyone.

In September-October 2006, the tax office was a St. Clair ArtWalk venue. Art@Liberty celebrated some of our neighbourhood’s special features, such as the quirky topiary front garden on Glenholme Ave. and the tiniest house in the province. The exhibition included clay and plaster casts, photography, video, and edible cornbread manhole covers.

In February, 2007, in addition to the Art@Liberty space, Side Space became our primary local exhibition venue. Since then Side Space has continuously mounted new shows featuring aspects of our community: its topography, residents, artists, built form and artifacts. We have examined our location on the escarpment, our relationship to Lake Ontario, the demise of a local diner, and many other topics which have featured a wide spectrum of our local artists and community members. To see all the art and events which have been presented here, go to the side menu and click on Exhibitions>Previous and Events> Previous.
There will be much more to come from our neighbourhood rich with artists, inspiration and the generous community spirit that keeps this gallery going.
