Constructed Birds

Giovanna Peel has conceived birds never seen in the original creation.   Audubon did not encounter them. They have not evolved in the conventional way.  Rather, the artist has accreted them from their parts – feathers, feet, eyes, beak.  They were assembled using rubber stamps which she designed.  By accumulation and the growing together of separate elements, their unique personalities emerge.  They are not species-specific, but unique individuals. She disparages their intelligence, but their character is irrefutable. Giovanna Peel is a meticulous and expressive draftsman with a delicate touch and an inventive mind.
